IIS DocuSphere software products are state-of-the-art, functional and easy to use, and they are not what we call “shelf-ware”. Shelf-ware is software that someone bought because it had all of the right check boxes, all the latest and greatest technology, and the best marketing literature, but it is still sitting on the shelf, never fully implemented. It probably didn’t address the real business problem, costs too much or takes too long to implement, or was so complicated that nobody understood how to implement it. We see that all the time. We have had customers who have selected an IIS solution to be implemented even though they had already purchased software from a competing vendor, because the business realized that with our assistance, they could install our software faster (thus achieving their goals faster), and at less total cost than the software they had already purchased, even when they took into consideration the sunk cost of the original software.
How can IIS do that? Because while we feel that technology is important and necessary, it certainly is not more important than the real business issues. Installing and maintaining software isn’t what our customers do for a living. They have products and services that they sell, and their own set of customers to keep happy. That is what is important to them. Software is just a means to an end; another tool to be used to help you, the customer, improve the bottom-line, reduce your costs, improve efficiency, or increase sales. Period.
